Wrestling Observer reports that the Nevada State Athletic Commission yesterday released their official UFC 71 report, including details of injuries and medical suspensions as a result of Saturday night’s PPV. A medical suspension by the NSAC, which is dished out if the Commission feel a fighter has suffered a relatively high level of physical damage, is not restricted to UFC, and applies to all combat sports both domestically and overseas worldwide to all combat sports.
The NSAC handed out suspensions that run through to June 26 to Chris Leben (right eyebrow) and Kalib Starnes (left cheek), and suspensions running through to July 12 to the defeated now-former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell and Carmelo Marrero.
Keith Jardine was given a medical suspension through to July 26, while Ivan Salaverry has been told he cannot compete until November 23 due to a shoulder injury. If he undergoes surgery on the shoulder or receives medical clearance, his suspension may be lifted after June 26.
Karo Parisyan and James Irvin may also be forced to sit out until mid-November. Parisyan has an injury to his left thumb which, like Salaverry, could see his suspension lifted sooner should he undergo surgery or receive medical clearance. The same ruling applies to Irvin, who suffered a knee injury (believed to be a partial ACL tear) during last Saturday’s loss to Thiago Silva.
