Tito Ortiz vs Rashad Evans!

Rashad Evans

MMAWeekly.com is reporting that Tito Ortiz will return to competition with the Ultimate Fighting Championship on 7/7.

Ortiz will be facing Rashad Evans, who looked extremely impressive with a first round knockout Sean Salmon of at the last UFC Ultimate Fight Night Live special on SpikeTV.

The fight will be Ortiz’ first bout since losing to Chuck Liddell via TKO when their fight was stopped in the third round last December.

Ortiz vs. Evans will be a featured undercard bout for the UFC PPV, which will be headlined by UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s first championship defense as he faces Nathan Marquardt. A previously scheduled title bout against Travis Lutter was designated a non-title bout after Lutter failed to make weight.

" This fight is up in the air in my book. Rashad might be the next big thing!

This should be an interesting fight. If Rashad wins it’ll be looked at as an upset but he has the tools to win. If Tito loses, his stock will plummet. Tito needs some quality wins to keep him at the top of the UFC ranks. Can’t wait!

If Tito Ortiz can get a takedown, he will atempt some ground and pound. But if Rashad Evans can sprawl hard enough, and keep the fight on his feet, I think Rashad could knock him out. Its going to be a very interesting fight, hopefully very explosive too!

rashad can overpower tito but you’ll see both these fighters trying to stay on their feet and this should be a classic battle

Im one of the biggest ortiz fans out there. I win with him , i lose with him, no matter what. But to be perfectly honest i feel tito has maybe peeked out. He’s still got some fights left in him but i think its probably unlikely we’ll see the light heavyweight belt around his waist again. I think Rashad and Tito will be a great match, both fighters bring alot to the table, Rashad being the better stand up fighter and Tito being the better fighter on the ground. The only thing working against Tito now is it almost seems as if fighters have figured out how to gaurd against him when he shoots at them ( ken shamrock doesnt count since hes 96 years old ) even though he took Forrest down a couple times in there fight Forrest had an answer for it in the later rounds, and obviously the fight against Chuck there isnt much that can be said about that. Anyway you look at it the fight has got the makings to be a classic. In all of this though i’ll have to end it with Tito Ortiz is the man and if you fight Tito Ortiz….YOU LOSE!

I really don’t like this card. I am a fan of both Tito and Rashad. Tito past has not been so great against good strikers (Liddell) or excellent wrestlers (couture). Rashad doesn’t have the accurracy of Liddell nor does he have the wrestling experience of couture BUT… He is a balanced mixture of both. He’s got lightning quick hands and is a stand out college wrestler. Let’s not forget, he put Imes to the ground twice so his punches, when landed are no joke. Its going to come down to game plan. I am not impressed with Evans planning for fights. Nor am I impressed with his jiu jitsu. There have been too many missed opportunities of an opponent giving up there back to Rashad and he won’t sink the rear naked!!

I got Evans on this one. Tito won’t be able to get an easy take down. He’ll have to work his clinch game (which he does so well). But Evans take down defense is well above average. Evans by TKO round three.

    Rashad will smash Tito

Ok, haven’t we all learned yet not to bet against Rashad? I know I’ve gotten tired betting against him.

Everyone whos saying Tito has the advantage on the ground and rashad has the advantage standing is stupid. Rashad was an accomplished D1 wrestler, it would be extremely difficult to ground and pound Rashad. Their ground games are damn close.

It’s going to come down to standup, and conditioning. I think their standup is close and tito has better cardio. I’ll take tito by Unanimous decision.

Your not going to beat a fighter like Tito Ortiz after a loss, plain and simple. Your also not going to see Rashad Evans take out a fighter of Tito’s skill level either, Rashad can go get bent and start training for his comback fight because Tito Ortiz is going to talk sh*t, take names, and probably have a funny as hell t-shirt about how he kicked the sh*t out of Evans. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, ya gotta love Ortiz , 1….2…3…..Team Punishment!!!!

While it is true that in UFC appearances Rashad has finished few opponents, the fact that he emerged as the ultimate fighter in the heavyweight division speaks to an ability to meet a challenge when it appears that the odds are stacked against him. Tito has fought and beaten some tough opponents. If he gets you to the ground, he can administer a savage beating. However, when forced to stand, You dont see him just beat a guy down. If it comes down to striking, I would say that Rashad wins, because he is a more technically sound fighter than Tito. Titos mouth aside, he is extremely dangerous on the ground and if he gets you there, it is very tough to get up and win. That being said, if it stays on the feet, Tito goes home with a lumpy head and a swollen ass; but if it gets on the ground Tito will have fulfilled his Don Imus inspired prediction.
