Check out Will's UFC 85 Breakdown!

by Will of Justbleed.net

Hi there, my name is Will from www.justbleed.net. As I am sure you can tell, the updates on this site have been sporadic. This is due to the lack of time Tamara, the site owner, has available these days. That is where I step in. My partner at Justbleed.net and myself have a passion for UFC and writing about it. Being that we are passionate and love writing about UFC, and Tamara owns a fantastic site but lacks time to write articles, it only made sense that we work together to bring you, the UFC fans, the best content possible! Look for a further profile of Nick and myself, along with Justbleed.net, in the upcoming days. We both look forward to providing great content for you! Now that we have that out of the way… on to the UFC 85 breakdown!

Matt Hughes vs Thiago Alves The main event for this card has been plagued by changes due to injuries. While this fight might not carry the same type of hype as a Chuck Liddell vs Mauricio "Shogun" Rua I believe it is a really interesting match up. Hughes is at a point in his career where he needs to put something together or retire. Alves is an up and coming contender after his knockout win over Karo Parisyan. I really believe that tools-wise Alves has the upper hand in this fight. He obviously has much better stand up, and his ground game isn’t horrible. That being said, I still think Hughes is going to take this fight. I think this will be a classic Hughes fight. He will take Alves down, ground in pound, and take a decision.

Fabricio Werdum vs Brandon Vera This is another very meaningful fight. The winner of this fight should be next in line for a title shot after the Frank Mir/Big Nog fight. Werdum has the best BJJ in the heavyweight division next to Big Nog. If this fight goes to the ground he has a huge advantage. On the feet Vera has great standup and good boxing, but Werdum’s stand up has really be increasing since working with Cro Cop and recently working with Chute Boxe. My prediction is that they will stand a bit going back and forth and then Werdum will take it to the ground. Werdum by submission 2nd round, or possibly decision if he doesn’t catch Vera.

Michael Bisping vs Jason Day This fight was supposed to have Chris Leben instead of Jason Day which would have been MUCH more interesting. Jason Day is largely unknown, but he has recently put toigether a nice run in smaller shows. If we have learned anything from 2007 you can not count the big underdog out. That being said, Bisping looked really good and a lot bigger in his first fight at middleweight. I would be extremely surprised if he lost, and pick him by KO round 1.

Marcus Davis vs Mike Swick Look up ‘fun fighter to watch’ in the dictionary and you will see Marcus Davis. I love this guy’s fights. On top of being exciting Marcus Davis is on an eleven fight winning streak. He is definitely riding high right now. On the other hand Mike Swick is coming off of a loss to Yushin Okami and a boring fight against Josh Burkman. I really don’t see much that Swick has to offer Davis right now. My pick is Marcus Davis by KO round 1.

Nate Marquardt vs Thales Leites This is an interesting fight in styles. Thales Leites has good BJJ, but I believe that Marquardt has better wrestling and stand up. Marquardt’s only recent loss is to Anderson Silva, and who doesn’t lose to that guy? The only way that I see Leites taking this fight is if he catches Marquardt in a submission, but I would be surprised if that happens. I pick Marquardt by decision. Well, that is the UFC 85 breakdown.

I really look forward to writing more articles, so keep checking back for more. Also, let me know what you think! Leave a comment here or swing by Justbleed.net. Until next time, Will
