Boxingscene reports In a recent interview with Maxim Magazine , Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins had some strong words on a variety of topics. Hopkins held nothing back when giving his opinion on the UFC dethroning boxing as the most popular combat sport in the world.
"Let me tell you something. Boxing survived the mob. It survived Don King. It survived every bad thing you can possibly imagine. You want to watch UFC? Go down to your local bar on a Friday night. After a few drinks, a couple of drunks will start throwing punches at one another. There’s your UFC for you. UFC is street fighting in a cage. Boxing is a controlled, skilled talent. There’s no comparison. Boxing’s not going anywhere. It’s hundreds of years old, man. You want to see biting, kicking, and kneeing? Go to your nearest bar. You want to see fighting, go to Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on July 21," Hopkins said.

Dear Mr. Hopkins,
You are a great boxer and I respect the combination of work ethic and skill that you have. One thing that you have to understand is that boxers are not “fighters”, they are skilled technitions that use gloves, ropes, and hugging to allow a fight to go 12 rounds. UFC is a sport that does not allow you to hug, break away, and regather yourself after gloved hand contact. Even though you might not think that UFC is a an elite group of fighters because of the somewhat “wild” or what seems to you as uncontrolled bar room brawling, doesn’t mean that these men aren’t world class fighters. To me the term “fighter” is not determined by what a man or women can do with just their fists. To me it is what a person can do with their whole body, that meaning wrestling, punching, kicking, and submission. If you want people to respect what you do you should show respect to people that could put a hurtin on you rather quickly.
Boy, is he in for a rude awaking!
I only wish I could go to the bar down the street and see some fights going on like they are in the UFC, and I’ve grown up in LA and OC!!!
All this is coming from a guy who use to call home, prison!!!! We have Don King Jr. here….
What a joke. I sure would like to see him step into the ring with Anderson Silva (UFC middleweight champ) I bet he wouldn’t last long.
Gotta respect Hopkins. He has his opinion on MMA and that’s it. Why is it that everytime a boxer makes a comment about to the UFC, people say “get in the octagon with (such & such)”. No, most boxers can’t defeat an MMA fighter in an MMA fight, just like most MMA fighters can’t defeat most boxers in a boxing ring. They aren’t saying that the fighters are weak or soft of anything like that, they are saying the sport *itself* isn’t legit.
Now thats not my personal opinion of the sport, but that’s the man’s opinion, and neither that, nor his jail record, nor anything else takes away from the fact that he is one of the most accomplished boxers in history, and especially in the middleweight division.
Boxing is boxing, fighting is fighting, they are seperate sports, and everyone’s entitled to an opinion.
boxing whats that…
boxing is a blow resulting in deaths or other things some time thus forth boxing is more dangeous already proven
The only time i ever saw biting was from “boxings Mike tyson”.

Hopkins is a idiot. The man needs to gather his thoughts and say somthing that actualy makes scense. This would be impossible for him though because he is a stupid nigger.
